....and there's no better food than the Corn Beef Hash dished up at Douglas Valley on Sunday Junior Matchdays!
Pictured above are some the Heroines of the Hob, Mrs Gill Callaghan, Mrs Jacquie Dutch, and Mrs Jackie Gormley, with their young assistant, at the games against Pendle on Sunday October 8th 2006.
Mrs Julie Makinson, pictured left, was out of the kitchen at the time delivering Wigan Club Chairman Frank Morgan his third portion of Hash of the day...... The Ladies are the cornerstone of Matchdays at Douglas Valley, where visiting teams are properly received by senior club and junior section officials.
At Wigan we follow a policy of making sure that young players are properly fed and watered throughout their time at the club, and the same applies to Mums, Dads, Grandparents and Family and Friends who come to enjoy the games - the kitchen opens for tea and coffee and biscuits well before the games get underway, and the Club Bar is open for refreshments a bit later as well!
Add to that the provision of Sky Sports on TV, and the ability of spectators to watch the junior match action from the comfort of the first floor Main Club Lounge at Douglas Valley, and we believe we offer our own and visiting junior players and supporters an excellent matchday experience.
Make sure you put in an advance order for the Corn Beef Hash though - our Chairman thoroughly recommends it.....
The Juniors Support Staff also includes Mrs Georgina Myles, pictured left, who kindly acts as First Aid adviser. George, as she prefers to be known, is well qualified for the job, being an IC Unit Senior Nurse in Manchester. George is serving her country in Afghanistan between July and October 2007 as Captain in the Queen Alexandra's Nursing Corps, based at Camp Bastion in Helmand Province. We are all very proud of her.
